Message from Director of Technical Services

The Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service issued final regulations amending the rules for filing returns and other documents electronically (e-file). These regulations will require certain filers to e-file beginning in 2024. Most importantly, the final regulations reduce the 250-return threshold enacted in prior regulations to generally require electronic filing by filers of 10 or more returns in a calendar year (beginning in 2024, tax year 2023). You can read more about this news on this link. This affects your W-2, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, and ACA forms (1094 B/C, 1095 B/C). You can view the complete list of forms here. This will impact your process and schedule for printing and filing the affected forms, especially if you have not done e-filing in the past. Our partnership and integration with Aatrix allow you to e-file these forms. If you and your clients are not yet enrolled in the e-filing program, then now will be a good time to start the process in preparation for the year-end. Do not wait until the last minute. Contact AccountMate Technical Support if you have questions about AccountMate and Aatrix e-filing features.

PR Tax: New E-Filing Threshold

The Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service published final regulations reducing the threshold for filing returns and other documents electronically (e-file). These regulations require filers of 10 or more information returns in a calendar year beginning in 2024, tax year 2023, to file those information returns electronically. For more information about the regulations and the reduced threshold to electronically file, refer to the IRS and Treasury’s final regulations on e-file and the Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) webpages.

From the FIRE page, to determine if you meet the 10 or more threshold to electronically file:

·    Identify how many information returns of any type covered by TD 9972, you need to file during a calendar year

·    If 10 or more, you MUST file electronically

Example: During the calendar year 2024, for tax year 2023, filing season, Company W, is required to file 4 Forms 1099-NEC, Nonemployee Compensation, and 4 Forms 1099-DIV, Dividends and Distributions, 2 Form W-2, Wage Statement, for a total of 10 returns. Because Company W is required to file 10 returns as calculated during the calendar year 2024, for tax year 2023, filing season, Company W must electronically file all its tax year 2023, Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-DIV with the IRS, and Forms W-2 with the Social Security Administration.

AccountMate through its partnership and integration with Aatrix has the e-filing option for PR Tax supported forms. If you are new to e-filing, you might want to prepare for this change ahead of time. Contact AccountMate Technical Support at 707-774-7599 / BPSupport@accountmate.com if you have questions about e-filing options.

TechNote: Understanding the Sales Order Import Function

In addition to using the regular Create Sales Order function, sales orders may be created by importing either a text (i.e., TXT) file or a comma-separated values (i.e., CSV) file provided the required parameters are met. This week, we publish Article # 1108: Understanding the Sales Order Import Function. This Technical Note explains how to use the Import Sales Order function to import and create sales orders and lists AccountMate’s sources for default values in the imported sales order.
